Mardi Gras Madness
Mardi Gras arrived in New Orleans thanks to French-Canadian explorer Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville and his brother Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville who named the spot Pointe du Mardi Gras in 1699, and the city has been feasting and parading ahead of Lent ever since. This tour follows the traditional parade route through the Garden District, rolling past the grand mansions of St. Charles Avenue while your guide tells the wilder stories of processions past. Look up and you may spot Mardi Gras throws still tangled in the branches overhead, left behind from previous years. To finish, you arrive at Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World, the working warehouse where the floats are designed, built, and stored between parades. Wandering among them, beads in hand, is the closest you can get to Carnival without being there on the day.
