Caves & City
Hato Caves sits just outside Willemstad, and the descent into its limestone chambers puts everything above ground on pause. Guides point out the animals and figures hidden in the stalagmites and stalactites, with a colony of long-nosed fruit bats, a carved Madonna statue, and ancient Indigenous wall paintings adding to the atmosphere below. Back in daylight, the tour moves into Willemstad's UNESCO city center, where a walk through the local marketplace, the former floating fruit market, and past the colorful merchant houses lining the harbor entrance traces the city's history at street level. Fort Amsterdam brings the tour to a close before returning ship side.
